SWAROVSKI GEMS™ has long had a history of identifying and embracing the latest in forward thinking fashion trends, including recently the growing importance of the personal consumer electronics segment. The evolution of these devices into omnipresent cultural necessities for instant communication has opened up the demand for personalization and increasingly edgier styles. For SWAROVSKI GEMS™ this is the perfect opportunity to bring cutting edge ideas to the forefront of design by launching a Lifestyle Electronics Design Competition for 2011.

Key Design Directions
As part of an ongoing search directed at discovering the latest global
and local trends in the consumer electronics industry, SWAROVSKI GEMS™
has identified four key design directions for this year’s competition.
These trends of ‘Highly Luxurious’, ‘Daily Business’, ‘Let’s Party’ and ‘Casual Sports’
define and embrace all of the demanding extremes of modern life in all
its complexity. The challenge for today’s design talent wishing to enter
the competition was specific: to respond to the increasing demand for
uniquely personalized electronic goods, such as mobile phones,
notebooks, earphones and e-books, by creating something unique and
beautiful using the SWAROVSKI GEMS™ assortment of gems and created
stones. Their concept was to illustrate one of the four identified
trends and to reflect the kind of individualized high-end sense of
luxury now demanded by the discerning consumer.
And the winners are...
Participants had the possibility to either upload their own electronics design(s) or use a toolkit to virtually configure a mobile phone, based on existing models provided by the system, that allowed them to incorporate our existing SWAROVSKI GEMS™ stone assortment.
The freely created designs were judged by a professional jury, consisting of influential personalities within the luxury brands industry:
